The point is that people think they know what's good for them, but G-D knows whats really going on and guides a person as they need to be guided.

That's a good explanation, it's true that in hindsight often we realize somehtign we wanted was not what we needed.
dogs are ritually impure in islam...i'm guessing that isn't the case in judaism?
